Speeding Tickets in Scotland

Fixed Penalty Ticket for Speeding in Scotland

If you are unlucky enough to receive a speeding ticket (formally known as a Fixed Penalty) in Scotland it will offer you the chance to accept 3 penalty points and a fine of £100. The fixed penalty can be accepted and paid at any Sheriff Court in Scotland or alternatively it can be challenged in Court. In order to challenge the matter in Court, the Fixed Penalty simply requires to be ignored.

I Have 9 Points on My Licence - Can I Accept a Fixed Penalty?

If you have at least 9 active penalty points on your licence you cannot accept a Fixed Penalty notice and the case must be referred to Court. In certain situations, Fixed Penalties may be issued erroneously to motorists who already have 9 penalty points. In such cases, should you attempt to accept the Fixed Penalty for speeding, it would be rejected at the point of payment. Receiving a Fixed Penalty when you already have 6-9 penalty points on your licence is a serious matter as you risk a significant period of disqualification under the totting-up provisions.
